Joe Torre [General] — Michael @ 12:39 am

The Boss said Torre probably wouldn’t be retained if the Yankees didn’t win the Divisional Series against Cleveland.

The Yankees didn’t win the Divisional Series against Cleveland.

Now the Yankees (GM Brian Cashman, actually) are saying that the decision will take some time to make.  Huh?

First - let’s not be branded a loud mouth……………….more of a loud mouth hypocrite, G.  Say it, do it.

Second - Braves fans can tell you how much fun it is going to the playoffs and never winning.  Bobby Cox is still around, and now the Braves aren’t even going to the playoffs any more.  The Yanks are on a downhill trend, so changes need to be made for them to avoid becoming the next perennial playoff loser to become a perennial team-that-misses-the-playoffs.

Finally - Torre has become (or is quickly becoming) baseball’s Marty Schottenheimer (Marty’s taken 13 teams to the playoffs and has won just 5 games, none since ‘93, making his playoff record 5-13 with no Super Bowl appearances).  Stellar managing ability during the regular season, but unable to seal the deal at the end of the year.  Maybe it’s just the collective inability of over-the-hill overpaid free agents that run out of gas in October, but until someone else is given the opportunity to motivate and manage that bunch, we’ll never know.

On second thought, I hate the Yankees.  Keep Torre, G.
